A Professional Organizer’s Purse
A friend recently asked me, “So what does a Professional Organizer have in her purse?”
So, in case you’ve ever wondered the same thing, let’s look at what I have in my purse right now.
A business card case with my business cards to distribute. It also has room for me to take and store cards from people I meet. I then take these out and file them when I get home. No loose cards floating around in my purse!
My wallet, which includes compartments to store both business and personal receipts, a change compartment, and of course all of my cards and cash. I never carry more than 20 cards—if you do, it’s just overstuffing your wallet, plus you probably aren’t using all of them and won’t be able to find the one you want.
My keychain, with four keys (to my apartment, to my car, to my mailbox, and to the laundry room). I leave my storage locker key, my safety deposit box key, my bike key, and any other keys at home.
Pens—not one but two regular ballpoints, because it’s very easy to lend and lose one pen and then you have none. I also carry one black Sharpie marker, which I find incredibly useful.
A miniature hairbrush and mirrored compact for personal grooming, plus a lip gloss. These essentials are all anyone really needs for emergency touch-ups.
My handy measuring tape.
A trial-size bottle of hand sanitizer.
One small Ziploc bag—you never know when you may need it, just trust me.
A small folded map of Vancouver, even though this is my home. The one I have is Translink’s OnBoard commuting options map; it folds to the size of a business card. I am never lost.
My Blackberry, obviously.
I have an allergy to wasp stings, so I always carry my Epi-Pen and a small packet of Benadryls, year round because you just never know.
Okay, go have a look in your own purse. What do you have in there? Do you really need everything you’re carrying? Purses are notorious clutter-keepers. Clearing your purse out will take ten minutes, and can be the first and easiest step to a decluttered life.
