Are You A Hoarder? »

An Alternative To Traditional Gift-Giving

Think about all the gifts that are given at Christmas and throughout the year, in your family, on your street, across your city, and throughout the world.  How many of them do you think are really wanted?  How many soaps and chocolates and candle holders and sweaters are actually making someone’s dream come true?

Naturally, children want parcels at Christmas, and I can remember opening gifts that really felt like dreams come true. But as we get older, dreams are harder to fit into boxes and tissue paper, and more than 80% of us receive at least one unwanted gift every holiday season.  That’s a lot of clutter.

I’ve just discovered something wonderful, though—it’s called Dreambank.  Their slogan is: “Give Dreams. Not Stuff.” You register your dream gift (whether that’s a vacation, a piece of furniture, fine artwork, further education, jewellery, or even support for a charity or special cause) and then people who wish to give you a gift can do so by contributing toward your dream.  Check out their Frequently Asked Questions to learn more.

Dreambank is based here in Vancouver, Canada, and it’s a great way to reduce both shopping stress and clutter around the holidays.  Encourage your family and friends to sign up with Dreambank, and know that you’ll be contributing to something they really want.
