What is a Professional Organizer? A Professional Organizer is someone dedicated to supporting and empowering clients on the journey from disorganization and clutter to clarity and order. A Professional Organizer should belong to a professional association (such as Professional Organizers of Canada), and should have some formal training in the field as well.

What is Professional Organizers of Canada? POC provides Credibility, Community & Connections to professional organizers working in Canada. Their mission is: To provide a supportive environment for Professional Organizers, promote networking, share ideas, encourage referrals and increase awareness of the field of professional organizing in Canada.

Why should I hire a Professional Organizer? Hiring a Professional Organizer will help you improve your life in terms of organization and time management. A Professional Organizer will work with you to put systems in place so you don’t feel overwhelmed and out of control. You can use the services of a Professional Organizer to take control of any or all parts of your life, whether business-related or personal.

How do I know if a Professional Organizer is right for me? A Professional Organizer can be right for anyone who hasn’t already achieved complete perfection. It’s really a question of whether you are ready to work with a Professional Organizer. Ask yourself: “What area of my life do I need the most help with?” Then, ask yourself: “Am I open to sharing that part of my life with a professional who can help me organize it?” If the answer is yes, then a Professional Organizer is right for you.

How should I choose the right Professional Organizer for me? Start by looking at a few different Professional Organizers’ websites to see what they offer. Then, choose two or three that appeal to you and set up an initial consultation with each one. Get a feel for how each one would work for you. Choose your Professional Organizer based on the plan that would work best for your situation.

What will happen during the initial consultation? We will discuss what areas you feel comfortable working on, and we will get a sense of what you would like us to do, your budget, and how much time and energy you are able to put into the project. There is no commitment with the consultation.

Will I have to sign a contract? After the initial consultation, if you are interested in proceeding, the professional organizer will put a plan together for you. A second meeting will be arranged, where the Professional Organizer will show you the plan and give you an estimate of how much it would cost to implement. If you like the plan and agree to the estimate, then at that time you will be asked to sign a contract and also make a deposit. The contract simply states that you are hiring the Professional Organizer and that you have agreed to the terms of working with the Professional Organizer.

I don’t deal well with criticism. Can I still work with a Professional Organizer? Of course you can work with a Professional Organizer; all you need to do is find one who fits your needs. If you have difficulty dealing with criticism, express this to the Professional Organizer during your initial consultation, and see how you feel about his or her response. A good Professional Organizer will take your particular needs and challenges into consideration. Working with a Professional Organizer is not about criticism; you are simply using a service to improve your quality of life.

What is the best way to get the results I want from working with a Professional Organizer? For optimum results, we recommend that you be honest about your goals and feelings, both at the outset and throughout the process, and try to keep an open mind with regard to your Professional Organizer’s suggestions.

What is chronic disorganization? Chronic disorganization is having a past history of disorganization in which self-help efforts to change have failed, an undermining of current quality of life due to disorganization, and the expectation of future disorganization.

What is The Institute for Challenging Disorganization? The Institute for Challenging Disorganization is a non-profit organization serving professional organizers and related professionals who are interested in the study and methods of serving chronically disorganized people.

What can I expect from Clarity Jane? On time, uniformed staff, generally a team of two or more unless you have specifically determined that you will only need one organizer, etc.
