Just Knowing Your Stuff Isn’t Enough
“To become successful you must be a person of action.
Merely to know is not sufficient.
It is necessary to both know and do.”
-Napoleon Hill
I have found, once we get into the process, that most of my clients actually know how to organize. They watch “Mission: Organization” and “Clean Sweep” on TV. Many of them have how-to books and educational CDs. Some have even purchased storage bins and label makers. It makes sense—people who genuinely want a more organized life do their research, right? And then they call me, because just knowing isn’t enough.
The key to getting organized is to actually do the work. There’s no magic shortcut. Those TV shows make it look like magic, but all the books and organizing toys in the world won’t make a change in your life until you roll up your sleeves and put your knowledge into action.
It doesn’t have to be a mammoth effort, though—even ten minutes a day will make a difference, and here’s a tip: there are lots of small organizing tasks you can do while watching TV! Make ten minutes a day your goal for the week, and knock off one small organizing chore. You’ll be surprised at what you’ve done by the end of the week.
I’d love to hear how this works for you! Post a comment here, or email me at emma@clarityjane.com.
