Tool #2: Assigning tasks and chores with “Remember the Milk” »

Tool #1: Using “Google Calendar“ to keep your family on time

No matter what size your family, keeping everyone organized and on track is important to a smoothly running household. Over the next week we’ll share 3 free or cheap online tools that will help you and your family stay organized.

Today’s online tool will help you keep your appointments.

With Google Calendar, each family member can create their own calendar to keep track of their appointments and schedule. Each person can then invite all other family members to view and edit their calendar.

For example, daughter Kelly has a special band rehearsal on Thursday after school so she adds it to her calendar. Her mother is on the phone with the dentist trying to book the family’s yearly check-up and has Google Calendar open. She sees that her daughter has that rehearsal on Thursday, so schedules the appointment for Friday instead.

You can also create a separate calendar for family events where you can put family dinners, vacations, and keep track of birthdays and anniversaries. Perhaps you can use another calendar to track pay days and bills so they are paid on time. You can also set reminders for each one.

Check back on Thursday to learn about a tool to delegate chores/tasks to your family and help get your to-do list done.
